WPC 2023: Nigeria,others to deliberate on sustainable energy transition

Nigeria and other global energy leaders will today converge at the 24th edition of the World Petroleum Congress in Calgary, Canada to deepen talks on sustainable energy transition.
Group Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian National Petroleum Company(NNPCL),Mr.Mele Kyari, is expected to be on a panel session at the global energy event to be supported by the Commission Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission(NUPRC), Mr.Gbenga Komolafe, among other industry leaders from Nigeria.
The WPC conference themed “Energy Transition: The Path to Net Zero” which holds from September 17 to 21, will witness the attendance of over 15, 000 visitors across 100 countries.
According to the organisers, theWorld population is still increasing, and billions of people need to be brought out of energy poverty, requiring more energy in the future than today.
“Our challenge is to involve all stakeholders so that our energy transformation is responsible and reflects good governance and the needs of society, the climate, and the environment, leading to a reliable, economically viable, and sustainable energy future and a better world for all.
This will be the net zero approach address at the Congress.
The 24th edition of the World Petroleum Congress will be an important bridge between the traditional energy sector and a more carbon-neutral industry over the next twenty-five years.
Many important conversations will happen in Calgary to help define realistic, workable paths to a net zero future.
The Canadian Chapter of the World Petroleum Council is over 70 years old!! Joining the WPC
organization in 1950, Canada has been a very active member and promoting the petroleum
industry both home and abroad.

World Petroleum Council (WPC), a non-political, Non-Governmental Organization accredited by
the United Nations.
We are a premiere network of energy professionals, with a membership that includes more
than 60 representatives of the Canadian oil and gas industry from the private, public and
academic sectors.
WPC Canada helps our members stay connected and informed about the oil and gas industry
worldwide, primarily by organizing the Canadian presence at the tri-annual World Petroleum
Congress.
This event is a forum for debating key industry issues, sharing best practices, and
reaching out to key stakeholders.
Of special significance is our planning for the 24th World petroleum congress to be held in
Calgary, Alberta, in the fall of 2023.
Our planning is well underway in preparation to host this
huge event – often billed the ‘Olympics of Oil & Gas shows’ with a worldwide attendance of
delegates expected.
