Strike: Reps adjourn sitting, seek speedy resolution of FG, labour dispute
The House of Representatives has adjourned plenary as a result of the strike declared by Organized Labour.
The Deputy Speaker of the House, Benjamin Kalu, called for an adjournment after “Matters of urgent public importance” were considered and adopted.
As he led the discussion, Kalu, an All Progressives Congress, APC, member representing Bende Federal Constituency in Abia State, urged the National Assembly leadership to work with organised labour to find a compromise that would benefit the country as a whole.
Lawmakers who made it to the plenary lamented the hardship Nigerians nationwide have been subjected to since the commencement of the industrial action, stressing that every step must be taken to resolve the dispute once and for all.
Speaker Tajudeen Abbas declared in his ruling prior to the adjournment that the House leadership will meet with its Senate counterpart right away, promising Nigerians that the matter would be taken seriously and handled urgently.
The House, therefore, adjourned until Thursday and all items on the Order Paper, including the consideration of legislation and motions, were put on hold.
